Yours, LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the splendor and the majesty, for everything in the heavens and on earth belongs to you. Yours, LORD, is the kingdom, and you are exalted as head over all.”
— 1 Chronicles 29:11 CSB
Where does a woman’s worth come from? Our culture offers countless answers. Some say our value comes from our appearance. Others point to things like success, influence, or relationships. Yet all of these standards have one thing in common: they can change.
The Bible offers a completely different foundation. Before Scripture ever tells us what is expected of women, it tells us about God. He alone is the source of greatness, glory, and power, yet His worth is not something He earns or receives from others. He is worthy because He is God. This matters for women because Genesis tells us that both men and women are created in God’s image (Genesis 1:27), which means our worth is not something we earn with things like beauty, popularity, or motherhood. Worth is something we inherit at the moment of our creation from the God whose image we bear. It is part of our DNA, which means it can never be taken away from us.
We see evidence of this truth in the way Jesus interacts with the women He encountered. Throughout the Gospels, He consistently treated women with dignity, welcoming those society overlooked, honoring women as disciples, and restoring those who had been cast aside. If you’ve spent years wondering whether you’re enough, Scripture invites you to look to God and remember that Your worth does not originate in you. It originates in the One whose image you bear. We are worthy because He is worthy, and that truth rests securely in the unchanging character of God.
Embodied Worship
Dignity begins with receiving. Today, practice a posture of receiving God’s truth. Stand with your feet firmly planted on the ground. Open your hands, take a slow breath, and as you breathe in, pray: “Lord, help me receive what You have already given.” As you breathe out, release the need to prove yourself. “My worth comes from You.” Remain still for a moment and remember: You are standing on ground created by God. You are carrying an image designed by God. You are loved by God.
