So God created man in his own image;
he created him in the image of God;
he created them male and female.
— Genesis 1:27 CSB

Have you ever looked at another woman and wondered why God seemed to give her gifts He did not give you? Perhaps you’ve examined yourself and concluded that you somehow reflect less of God’s beauty than others do. Our culture encourages comparison, convincing us that we must become someone more beautiful, more talented, or more successful to be valuable. But Scripture tells a different story. We do not create our own image—we receive it. Every human being is intentionally fashioned by the Creator to reflect something of His character and glory. Our dignity is not something we invent or achieve; it is something God bestows.

From the very beginning, God reveals that humanity alone is created in His image. Specifically, both men and women are created to reflect the character of the One who made them. Our gifts, personalities, and callings may differ, but our dignity remains the same because it is rooted in God’s design, not our performance. When we understand that we are image-bearers, created to be like God, comparison begins to lose its power, and gratitude begins to take its place.

It is easy to forget that God’s image is not something we compete for but something we receive. The more we rest in the truth that our dignity comes from Him, the less need we have to measure ourselves against anyone else. Gratitude quietly replaces comparison, and we begin to recognize the beauty of God’s image reflected not only in ourselves, but also in the women around us.

Embodied Worship

Stand comfortably with your hands resting over your heart. As you slowly breathe in, pray: Lord, thank You for creating me in Your image.” As you breathe out, gently extend your hands outward with open palms and pray: Help me reflect Your character today.” Repeat this several times, allowing the movement to remind you that God’s work begins within you and flows outward into the lives of others. You are not striving to create your own identity—you are receiving the One He has already given you.
